Review OUR Cataloging Policy will be reviewed and approved by library staff and volunteers, the certified school library media specialist, and the principal in August. The review will be considered a reflective and educational tool. Any changes as a result of the review will be scheduled and should generally be complete by the end of September; a more detailed implementation and progress plan can be created as needed. Professional development that may influence the yearly review should be scheduled in the spring and over the summer whenever possible, so the August review is as effective and forward-thinking as possible.
Weeding Weeding will be completed by the certified school library media specialist or by volunteers after training and supervision. The school library media specialist will approve all weeding before the next steps are completed. After approval, the material's record will be taken out of the catalog, the attached labels will be removed, the OUR School stamp will be covered, and it will be entered in a digital spreadsheet as well as a paper log with the reason for removal.
Donation Any donations will be recorded and this list will be available to the district and the larger educational governing organizations. We will consider all donated materials part of our inventory and catalog them according to our policies. We reserve the right to use donated materials in a variety of ways with approval of the school library media specialist. The donated materials will be recorded in a digital spreadsheet as well as print log. Monetary donations will be accepted and the source as well as what it is purchased will be recorded with material donations in both digital and print logs.
Maintenance The inventory on shelves and in records will be checked for accuracy at least once a year, typically in May and/or June. A digital and print log will be used to record missing and/or lost materials as well as any changes made or discrepancies found in the space or system. The library collection will be cleaned and organized regularly by staff.
